The Ingenuity of the Human Soul

The human mind is remarkable.  We can all most probably agree with that sentiment.  As to how remarkable the human mind is and what its capabilities are, divergences in thought begin to emerge.  The human mind is irreplaceable.  Although Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are giving way to rapid autonomous technology, the human mind will still remain at the top of the hierarchical processing pyramid.  In the emotional realm of the human mind, we find the greatest capacity for humanistic thought.  Actual Compassion, empathy and love cannot be replicated by means of technology.  The argument can be made that these emotions can be implanted via Artificial means but those feelings will still remain unreal.  The human mind and it’s connection to the heart is one network that still has yet to be dismantled and completely understood.

When the human heart and mind interact, natural processes occur in varying degrees of intricacy that no machine would be able to handle.  For the human heart and emotion, even spirituality, are iconic to mankind. In an earlier piece, The Cells of Life, the significance of the soul was discussed.  It is what separates man from beast or machine.  Its presence denotes whether an object is inanimate or animated — alive in the realm of reality.  As of yet, the soul itself has not been deciphered nor have we remotely reached near discovering its exact nature.  The soul is categorized hierarchically.  The human soul or spirit is at the top with other life forms following as a factor of complexion to their functionality.

Computation such as amassment of Big Data is practically and advantageously  successful via Artificial means.  Technology has accelerated at such a pace that mathematical proofs and algorithms can be easily discerned using machines; this part of the mind is comparatively simple to replicate.  The human brain is broken up into segmentations called lobes.  It is the temporal lobe that is responsible for emotion.  Not only does it handle emotion, it’s the segment that defines external stimuli using visual memory and transforms it into meaningful comprehension of language.

Envision a machine intaking external stimuli.  With Machine Learning it will be able to, over time, acquire and retain knowledge of it’s environment; this will increase efficacy and efficiency of elements that are recognizable in future interactions.  Now imagine a machine falling in love with another machine or living/non-living entity; it sounds preposterous doesn’t it?  This is in fact what places these machines in the category of Artificial.  Perhaps at a given time society will adapt to and accept what may constitute as inter-technological relationships but the fact remains will these Artificial intelligent machines ever be given the same rights as non-artificial life forms?  Will it be acceptable for machines to fall in love?  Is machine learning going to lead to the evolution of a new life form as we know it?  These are all questions we must race to answer, for they are the keys to mankind’s future and fortitude amongst other life forms, both living and artificial.
